Hull

Both the hull and the deck is made of fibreglass. Generally, a hull made of fibreglass requires only a minimum of maintenance during the sailing season.

Interior

The boat is equipped with 7 berths, a galley, 250.0 liter fresh water capacity and toilet facility.

Note: the boat has also been sold to be self-made/-interiored, which means that the quality of each boat may vary.

Keel

The Starlet was produced in 3 different models:
1) Closed cockpit with aft cabin
2) Closed cockpit without aft cabin
3) Open cockpit with aft cabin

Unknown keel type

Starlett 34 can enter even shallow marinas as the draft is just about 0.90 - 1.00 meter (2.95 - 3.25 ft) dependent on the load. See immersion rate below.

Engine

The boat may be equipped with an inboard Volvo Penta TMD 40 diesel engine at 124 hp (92 kW). Max speed is 14.0 knots.

The transmission is a shaft drive. A shaft drive will in the long run require less maintenance than other types of drive e.g. a sail drive.

The fuel tank, which is made of stainless steel, has a capacity of 400.0 liters (105 US gallons, 87 imperial gallons).

Sailing characteristics

This section covers widely used rules of thumb to describe the sailing characteristics. Please note that even though the calculations are correct, the interpretation of the results might not be valid for extreme boats.

Immersion rate

The immersion rate is defined as the weight required to sink the boat a certain level. The immersion rate for Starlett 34 is about 207 kg/cm, alternatively 1159 lbs/inch.
Meaning: if you load 207 kg cargo on the boat then it will sink 1 cm. Alternatively, if you load 1159 lbs cargo on the boat it will sink 1 inch.

Sailing statistics

This section is statistical comparison with similar boats of the same category. The basis of the following statistical computations is our unique database with more than 26,000 different boat types and 350,000 data points.

L/B (Length Beam Ratio)

What is L/B (Length Beam Ratio)?

The l/b ratio for Starlett 34 is 3.43.

Wide Slim 88% 0 50 100
Compared with other similar motor boats it is slimmer than 88% of all other designs. It seems that the designer has chosen a significantly more speedy hull design.

Curiosities

Powerboat?

In Denmark, you are required to have achieved a 'powerboat driving license' in order to sail a powerboat.
In this context a boat is considered a powerboat if:

Equation for Danish definition of a powerboat
Danish definition of a powerboat
According to this definition this boat is not categorized as a Powerboat.
Though, if you install a motor of 109 kW (146 hp), then the boat will become a powerboat, and you will need a Danish 'powerboat driving license'
