The Centurion 47 is a large sailboat designed by the French maritime architect Edward George Dubois in the mid eighties. Less than 100 boats have been produced. The Centurion 47 is built by the French yard Wauquiez.

Hull

The hull is made of fibreglass. Generally, a hull made of fibreglass requires only a minimum of maintenance during the sailing season.


Keel

The Centurion 47 has been built with different keel alternatives.

Unknown keel type

The keel is made of lead. Compared with iron, lead has the advantage of being 44% heavier, which allows a smaller keel and hence less water resistance and higher speed.

The boat can only enter major marinas as the draft is about 2.64 - 2.74 meter (8.66 - 8.96 ft) dependent on the load. See immersion rate below.

Fin keel

The Centurion 47 is equipped with a fin keel. A boat with a fin keel is more manoeuvrable but has less directional stability than a similar boat with a full keel.

The boat can only enter major marinas as the draft is about 1.80 - 1.90 meter (5.91 - 6.21 ft) dependent on the load. See immersion rate below.


Engine

Centurion 47 may be equipped with an inboard Perkins 4.154 diesel engine at 62 hp (46 kW).
