The X-119 is a large sailboat designed by the maritime architect Niels Jeppesen in the late eighties. Less than 100 boats have been produced. The X-119 is built by the Danish yard X-Yachts A/S.

Hull

Both the hull and the deck is made of hand laid fibreglass. Generally, a hull made of hand laid fibreglass requires only a minimum of maintenance during the sailing season.

Both the hull and the deck is a sandwich construction which improves the indoor climate. Especially when the water is colder than the air in the cabin, then the double hull insulates against cold water and reduce the condense water in the cabin.


Interior

The interior is like many other boats made of mahogany. Mahogany belongs to the hardwood species, known for being water-repellent and resistant to decay. It has an attractive wood grain and holds wood polish and varnish well.
The boat is equipped with 4 cabins, 10 berths, a galley, 125.0 liter fresh water capacity and toilet facility.


Rig

The X-119 is equipped with a fractional rig. A fractional rig has smaller headsails which make tacking easier, which is an advantage for cruisers and racers, of course. The downside is that having the wind from behind often requires a gennaker or a spinnaker for optimal speed.


Keel

The X-119 has been built with different keel alternatives.

Torpedo keel

But be aware that even though a Torpedo keel is very good for speed racing, a fishing nets and the like in the water can easily make you into a troublesome situation.

The keel is made of lead. Compared with iron, lead has the advantage of being 44% heavier, which allows a smaller keel and hence less water resistance and higher speed.

The boat can only enter major marinas as the draft is about 2.04 - 2.14 meter (6.69 - 6.99 ft) dependent on the load. See immersion rate below.

Engine

The boat may be equipped with an inboard Volvo Penta 2002 diesel engine at 18 hp (13 kW). The speed is 8.0 knots.

The transmission is a saildrive.

The fuel tank, which is made of stainless steel, has a capacity of 60.0 liters (15 US gallons, 13 imperial gallons).
