Review of Carat 22 Combi

Both the hull and the deck is made of hand laid fibreglass. Generally, a hull made of hand laid fibreglass requires only a minimum of maintenance during the sailing season. And outside the sailing season, just bottom cleaning and perhaps anti-fouling painting once a year - a few hours of work, that's all.

The interior is like most other boats made of teak. Teak has the advantage of being naturally very oily and therefore water-repellent, which is suitable on boats.
The boat is equipped with one cabin, 3-4 berths, toilet facility and 60.0 liter waste water capacity.

Note: the boat has also been sold to be self-made/-interiored, which means that the quality of each boat may vary.

Unknown keel type

Carat 22 Combi can enter even shallow marinas as the draft is just about 0.60 - 0.70 meter (1.97 - 2.27 ft) dependent on the load. See immersion rate below.

The boat may be equipped with an inboard Volvo Penta engine at 28 hp (20 kW). Max speed is 12.0 knots.

The transmission is a shaft drive. A shaft drive will in the long run require less maintenance than other types of drive e.g. a sail drive.

The fuel tank, which is made of stainless steel, has a capacity of 48.0 liters (12 US gallons, 10 imperial gallons).

The immersion rate is defined as the weight required to sink the boat a certain level. The immersion rate for Carat 22 Combi is about 101 kg/cm, alternatively 565 lbs/inch.
Meaning: if you load 101 kg cargo on the boat then it will sink 1 cm. Alternatively, if you load 565 lbs cargo on the boat it will sink 1 inch.

What is L/B (Length Beam Ratio)?

The l/b ratio for Carat 22 Combi is 2.98.

Compared with other similar motor boats it is slimmer than 90% of all other designs. It seems that the designer has chosen a significantly more speedy hull design. This type of design is also referred to as 'needle'.

Though, if you install a motor of 47 kW (64 hp), then the boat will become a powerboat, and you will need a Danish 'powerboat driving license'
