The Antarès 8 also known as Antares 8 is a motorboat designed by the French maritime architect bureau Sarrazin Design. The Antarès 8 is built by the French yard Bénéteau.

Hull

The hull is made of fibreglass. Generally, a hull made of fibreglass requires only a minimum of maintenance during the sailing season. And outside the sailing season, just bottom cleaning and perhaps anti-fouling painting once a year - a few hours of work, that's all.

Engine

The Antarès 8 has been equipped with different engine alternatives.

Alternative 1:

The boat may be equipped with an outboard Suzuki DF200 gasoline engine at 200 hp (149 kW).

Alternative 2:

Antarès 8 may be equipped with an outboard Suzuki engine

Alternative 3:

The boat may be equipped with an outboard Suzuki gasoline engine at 184 hp (137 kW).

Alternative 4:

The boat may be equipped with an inboard Nanni T4-200 diesel engine at 200 hp (149 kW).

The transmission is a shaft drive. A shaft drive will in the long run require less maintenance than other types of drive e.g. a sail drive.

Alternative 5:

Antarès 8 may be equipped with a Mercury gasoline engine at 250 hp (186 kW)..

Alternative 6:

The boat may be equipped with a Mercury gasoline engine at 150 hp (111 kW)..

The fuel tank has a capacity of 280.0 liters (73 US gallons, 61 imperial gallons).

Sailing characteristics

Antarès 8 holds two CE certifications:

If less than 9 in on board the boat is by European Union certified as Class C. INSHORE:

Designed for voyages in coastal waters, large bays, estuaries, lakes and rivers where conditions up to, and including, wind force 6 (Beaufort scale) and significant wave heights up to, and including, 2 m may be experienced.

If less than 9 in on board the boat is by European Union certified as Class D. SHELTERED WATERS:

Designed for voyages on sheltered coastal waters, small bays, small lakes, rivers and canals when conditions up to, and including, wind force 4 (Beaufort scale) and significant wave heights up to, and including, 0,3 m may be experienced, with occasional waves of 0,5 m maximum height, for example from passing vessels.

Immersion rate

The immersion rate is defined as the weight required to sink the boat a certain level. The immersion rate for Antarès 8 is about 153 kg/cm, alternatively 861 lbs/inch.
Meaning: if you load 153 kg cargo on the boat then it will sink 1 cm. Alternatively, if you load 861 lbs cargo on the boat it will sink 1 inch.
